Fleeting moments from the Northern Camino

A less-than-conventional travel account

One thing left on my list to share from my recent Northern Camino walk was an account of some moments that stuck with me. I did not meet many people, my days mostly went by in solitude, enjoying nature, enjoying one step after another on the path and just enjoying the feeling of thoughts passing through my head at seemingly random moments and most definitely in a kind of chaotic but still soothing manner. Since I just want to capture these moments as I felt about them at the time, I kept my writing simple and short, letting the reader see a picture and a thought that I felt at that point in my journey.

Hope you all enjoy reading what I wrote and maybe for a moment, feeling what I felt…..

That moment after 30 kilometers of walking and about ready for a bath. But realizing I did not have enough water left…

The moment, when in my solitude I started hearing a regular rattling sound by the side of the road, thinking it may be a rattlesnake. But then I realized it was just coins in my pocket making the noise…

The countless moments of passers-by wishing me “Buen Camino’…

Someone sweet thought of me yesterday and I now get a small moment of joy…

Why would anyone leave a perfectly fine-looking walking stick along the road in the middle of nowhere? Can I pick it up and use it?

Looking down and seeing someone float in the sea, thinking it could be me. Then realizing that I am just the guy behind the camera…

This orange scarecrow looks like my rash guard…

The comfort of the yellow arrows showing me the way when I feel unsure about my path…

Not sure I can keep going. Shall I try to hitchhike?

Passing by a post with a Hungarian flag on it. Reminder of loved ones at home thinking of me…

Left or right? Safe but longer or dangerous but shorter? Went left first. Then after about 500 meters I stopped and said to myself: “what the heck? Go the shorter route!”. So, I turned around and followed the path to DANGER! 😈

This guy who just passed me looked like me in 20 years. I turn around to look at him as he passes. He is not there anymore. Was he even real?

A simple tomato salad with sea salt and olive oil. How can anything taste so good?!

A statue of a woman draped in purple at the square of a small seaside town. What might be her story and the meaning of the ribbon adorning her?

A message scratched into the table at the bar at the bus stop. Wondering what Lucia was doing here…

A drunk old man wearing his favorite team’s jersey with seemingly many stories to tell…

Taking the bus back after my walk to meet my friends. Long-ago memories of travelling in tbe last row with my basketball teams. Us? Trouble? Never!!! 😂

Planning my next hiking adventure already. Amazing to experience the world this way…
