I added a new work experience to my resume yesterday: Helped to build a community garden in Singapore.

What a unique opportunity to learn how building a garden on a rooftop is planned and executed. And what a unique opportunity to think about urban gardens and transformation of cities to blend built environments and nature closer.
The occasion broadened my horizons, not only by thinking what the future Singapore could look like, but also through working alongside lawyers, marketing professionals, event organizers, educators, environmental consultants and other garden builders, all coming together for the cause of creating something new, something different, something meaningful and lasting.
Getting dirty, holding a rake and most specially, holding a set of garden sheers also brought back sweet memories of my grandparents’ hard work of managing their own little vegetable and flower garden every season and the lovely produce and joy those gardens would produce for the entire family. I wish I could have more of those times now.

I shall reflect back on this experience with fond memories (and aching muscles for the new day or two….).
